🧾 Ingredients (Serves 4–6):
For the hamburger steaks:
-
1½ lbs ground beef
-
½ cup breadcrumbs
-
1 egg
-
1 small onion, finely chopped
-
2 cloves garlic, minced
-
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
-
1 tsp salt
-
½ tsp black pepper
For the gravy:
-
1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
-
½ cup milk or beef broth
-
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
-
1 tsp onion powder
-
½ tsp garlic powder
-
Optional: 1 cup sliced mushrooms or sautéed onions for extra texture
👨🍳 Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
2. Make the hamburger steaks:
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, chopped onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
Mix well and form into 4–6 oval-shaped patties.
Brown the patties in a skillet over medium heat for 2–3 minutes per side (they don’t need to be fully cooked). Place them in the prepared baking dish.
3. Mix the gravy:
In a bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup, milk or broth, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, and garlic powder.
Add mushrooms or sautéed onions if using.
4. Assemble and bake:
Pour the gravy mixture over the hamburger steaks in the dish.
Cover with foil and bake for 40–45 minutes, until patties are fully cooked and gravy is bubbling.
5. Serve:
Serve hot with mashed potatoes, buttered egg noodles, or Amish-style green beans. Spoon extra gravy over everything!
