Red Velvet Brownies

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter

1 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

6 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

2 tablespoons red food coloring

1/2 cup buttermilk (or substitute with milk + 1 tsp vinegar)

Preheat Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC). Grease and line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper. -
Melt Butter & Mix Sugar:
Melt butter in a saucepan or microwave. Stir in sugar until combined. -
Add Eggs & Vanilla:
Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla. -
Add Cocoa Powder:
Mix in cocoa powder until smooth. -
Combine Dry Ingredients:
In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt. -
Mix Wet & Dry:
Alternate adding dry ingredients and buttermilk to the wet mixture, mixing just until combined. -
Add Food Coloring:
Stir in red food coloring until batter is evenly colored. -
Bake:
Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out with a few moist crumbs. -
Cool & Serve:
Let cool completely before cutting into squares.
